ABOUT DEPARTMENT
GENESIS
The Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities was established in the year 1996. It is a multidisciplinary department having two Research Centres, one for Applied Sciences and another for Atmospheric Research. The faculty of the department are actively engaged in research activities under various sponsored projects in collaboration with premier institutes and have been publishing research papers in journals of National and International repute. The department serves as the launch pad for the Engineering study by teaching students the foundation courses in Sciences and Humanities interfacing with the core subjects of engineering.
DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHY
The Department aspires to provide knowledge in the areas of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Humanities and Management sciences to the students of engineering to lay strong foundation for respective core engineering discipline. The faculty of the department undertake research in advanced and interdisciplinary areas to keep abreast in the emerging domains.
OBJECTIVES OF BS&H
- To provide comprehensive conceptual treatment of Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities and Management principles for a suitable application in engineering study
- To increase proficiency in English Language for enhanced employability
- To hone students with life skills and management skills to prepare them for the future
- To imbibe moral and ethical values in students to motivate them to engage in engineering projects in community service and honest professional practice.
VISION
To serve as a spring board by proving comprehensive knowledge base of Mathematics, Applied Sciences and Humanities to apply in relevant Engineering practice and Inter-disciplinary Research.
MISSION
- To lay strong foundations of Mathematics, Basic Sciences and Humanities through contemporary teaching methods
- To impart communication skills and life skills for overall development and societal consciousness
- To inspire the faculty members for innovative multi-disciplinary research through constant interaction with reputed research organizations
BASIC DESCRIPTION
The Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities is presently being headed by Dr. A.V.M. Prasad, having 28 years of experience in teaching. The department comprises competent and experienced faculty belonging to different courses like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Commerce & Accountancy. The faculty are undertaking research in many applied areas and publishing research papers in reputed National and International Journals.
