Mechanical Engineering (ME)

About Department

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2011 with an intake of 60, followed by an increase of 180 post AICTE permit. The B.Tech program is accredited by NBA for three years (03.03.2020 to 30.06.2023). The college holds for itself a special place in the list of best Mechanical engineering colleges located in South India. The department has over 15 academic laboratories and a Micromachining research center, equipped with some of the state-of-the-art scientific instruments and machineries. Apart from, the department established 8 skill development laboratories in association with APSSDC-Siemens( Manufacturing –CNC lab, Manufacturing –Welding Lab, Electrical-Home lab, Electrical- Commercial (R&AC) lab, Design/CBT Lab and Agro Machinery Lab), APSSDC- Dassault Systemes(3D experience center) APSSDC – ECM(Robotics lab). The department strives to generate high quality graduates through rigorous coursework and cutting-edge research activities.

The students in the department are exposed to the problems faced by today’s societies, and are trained to address those problems through innovative thinking to develop appropriate technological solutions. In addition to the regular academic work, the students of the department are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities. In order to give students an exclusive exposure to the most important knowledge transfer sessions, the department regularly conducts symposiums, technical paper contests at the National level, guest lectures by experts, alongside creating the technical association Creative Association for Mechanical Engineering Students (CAMS) to enhance organizing skills and to take out hidden talents in student.

A special forums such as SAE INDIA Collegiate Club of SVEC, Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning (ISHRAE), Indian Welding Society (IWS), Institution of Engineers (INDIA) (IEI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Indian Institution of Production Engineers (IIPE), The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student section and robotics club of SVEC are executed by the department to empower technical knowledge and skill set among the students through technical and non-technical activities. The faculty members of the department drive these activities through their teaching and diverse research programs, covering numerous facets of Mechanical Engineering Science and applications. The department has evolved over time to keep up with the ever-increasing challenges in technology development, while maintaining a strong base in the fundamental aspects of Mechanical Engineering.

The Department is headed by Dr. K.C.Varaprasad. He has more than 18 years teaching and research experience and published 30 research articles in reputed National and International journals and Conferences. His area of expertise is in CAD/CAM, Production Technology, Engineering Metrology, Rapid Prototype Technologies, Mechatronics, Automation, Machine Tools, Computer Aided Engineering Drawing, Computer aided Machine Drawing, Un-Conventional Machining Process, Engineering Mechanics and Micromachining.
